| The setting: | Present day, in the dystopian country called “Eurasia“. Two men are sitting in a small room having tiled walls and a ceiling and floor of dull gray concrete. A single, harsh light emanates from the ceiling and a small drain sits in the center of the floor. The room is absent of furniture other than a hard concrete bench along each wall. One of the men is visibly upset. |
‘What are you in for?’ said Winston Smith.
‘Vax-crime!’ said Parsons, almost blubbering. The tone of his voice implied at once a complete admission of his guilt and a sort of incredulous horror that such a word could be applied to himself. He paused opposite Winston and began eagerly appealing to him: ‘You don’t think they’ll forcibly vaccinate me, do you, old chap?
They don’t forcibly vaccinate you if you have Natural Immunity — which you can’t help? I know they give you a fair hearing. Oh, I trust them for that! They’ll know my medical record, won’t they? You know what kind of chap I was. Not a bad chap in my way. Not brainy, of course, but aware. I tried to do my best for myself, my health, and society, didn’t I? I’ll get off with staying confined in my house, don’t you think? Or even just sent to an internment camp for the unvaccinated? A chap like me could make himself pretty useful in an internment camp. They wouldn’t destroy my career, social network, and life for deciding not to get vaccinated?’
‘Are you vaccinated?’ said Winston.
‘Of course I’m not vaccinated!’ cried Parsons with a servile glance at the video cameras. ‘You don’t think the government would arrest an innocent man, do you?’ His frog-like face grew calmer, and even took on a slightly sanctimonious expression. ‘Vax-crime is a dreadful thing, old man,’ he said sententiously. ‘It’s insidious. It can get hold of you without your even knowing it. Do you know how it got hold of me? Free and independent thought! Yes, that’s a fact. There I was, working away, trying to do my bit — never knew my mind had any capacity to search for information about the COVID-19 virus, work to separate the propaganda, misinformation, and globalist agendas from actual, factual science, and assess the real risks to me, my family and my friends. And then I started talking in my sleep. Do you know what they heard me saying?’
He sank his voice, like someone who is obliged for medical reasons to utter an obscenity.
‘“Down with Vaccine Mandates!” Yes, I said that! Said it over and over again, it seems. Between you and me, old man, I’m glad they got me before it went any further. Do you know what I’m going to say to them when I go up before the Contagion Remediation Action Panel? “Thank you,” I’m going to say, “thank you for saving society before it was too late.”’
‘Who denounced you?’ said Winston.
‘It was my grade school daughter,’ said Parsons with a sort of doleful pride. ‘She listened at the keyhole. Heard what I was saying, and reported me to the state and federal authorities the very next day. Pretty smart for a seven year old, eh? I don’t bear her any grudge for it. In fact I’m proud of her. It shows she was paying attention when her teachers, social workers, and doctors told her about all the evil consequences of not being vaccinated, anyway.’”

- Every Austrian over 18 must be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
- Vaccination is mandatory, and scheduled by the Government
- Deadline is February 1st, 2022
- Anyone unable to show proof of vaccination will be fined $680
- Repeat offenders who do not appear for their mandatory shots can be fined a maximum of $16,000 per year ($4,000 every 90 days)
- Certain minor exceptions to vaccination exist, but these are temporary.
