Recently I read about the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s home in Florida, and it reminded me of what is probably the best opening paragraph ever written in literature:
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way -
in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”
- Charles Dickens, “Tale of Two Cities”, 1859
The Bad News
Sunday, August 7, 2022: The United States Senate passes the “Inflation Reduction Act”, which will cost taxpayers $750,000,000,000 ($750 Billion) over the next ten years and reduce America’s inflation rate – currently the highest in the last 50 years – by an an amount “indistinguishable from zero”.
Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote.
The Really Bad News:
The bill includes $79,000,000,000 ($79.6 Billion) over ten years to fund the hiring of up to 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service agents and fully arm 70,000 of them, bringing the total number of agents enforcing tax collection to 170,000. (The bill also includes $370 billion to impose “Green Energy” on Americans, raises the minimum tax rate on companies to 15%, increases taxes on small and medium businesses, and puts price controls on drug manufacturers by limiting price increases to the inflation rate, along with a long list of other conditions…but, I digress)
The Exceptionally Bad News:
Monday, August 8, 2022: Exactly 90 days before the 2020 Midterm Elections, the FBI conduct a raid on former President Donald J. Trump’s Florida mansion.
“These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before.”
- President Donald J. Trump, August 8, 2022
The surprise FBI raid was allegedly conducted to search for documents in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. §2071, involving the concealment, removal, or mutilation of government documents. If found guilty of having just one government document in violation of that law, no matter how insignificant, Trump could be barred from ever holding a political office again, which would prevent him from running for President in 2024.
And, in the face of another attempt by Democrats to destroy Donald Trump’s spirit, resolve, personal wealth, reputation, and political ambitions, former President Trump reminds us that “the best is yet to come.“
BTW: Did you know?
Taking or having government documents which you’re not allowed to have, as well as lying to the government under oath, are serious offenses that can result in serious punishment, including prison, and the FBI and Justice Department “routinely prosecute” such crimes.
Let’s review how some high-ranking government employees have been punished in the past:
-
Democrat Samuel Richard “Sandy” Berger, who served as Deputy National Security Advisor and then National Security Advisor for President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001, stole highly-classified documents from the National Archives by hiding them in his clothing, hid them under a construction trailer, retrieved them later, and attempted to destroy them, calling his action “an honest mistake“. Despite the possibility his actions interfered with an investigation into Bill Clinton’s involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attack he was sentenced in 2005 to two years probation, fined $50,000, serve 100 hours of community service and lose his security clearance for three years.
-
Democrat Eric Holder, former Attorney General under Barack Obama, ignored a subpoena to appear in front of the US Congress to answer questions about Operation Fast and Furious, which illegally sold and shipped over 2,000 arms to Mexican drug lords. He was not searched, charged, arrested, or punished despite ignoring the subpoena for 2,516 days.
-
Democrat Hillary R. Clinton, former First Lady under Bill “BJ” Clinton and Secretary of State under Barack Obama, had over 1,340 emails containing classified information on her unsecured personal computer, including 65 emails deemed “Secret”, 22 deemed “Top Secret”, and some classified as “Top Secret/Special Access Program”: A classification as so sensitive you needed a security clearance just to know which types of documents were covered by the security classification. Her home was not searched, and she was not charged, arrested, or punished under Title 18 U.S.C. §2071.
-
In 2014 Democrat Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State under Barack Obama, declared under penalty of perjury she’d returned every work-related document in her possession back to the State Department. In 2017 the FBI found 72,000 pages of documents Clinton either didn’t return or attempted to destroy. Despite allegedly breaking the law she was not charged, arrested, or punished.
-
James Clapper, former Director of National Intelligence under Barack Obama, committed perjury by lying under oath to Congress. Despite breaking the law he was not charged, arrested, or punished.
-
John Brennan, former Director of the CIA and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism under Barack Obama, lied under oath to the US Congress on one and possibly two separate occasions. Despite allegedly breaking the law twice he was not charged, arrested, or punished.
-
Andrew McCabe, former Deputy Director of the FBI under Barack Obama, faced criminal charges for misleading and allegedly lying to federal investigators. He was not charged, arrested, or punished.
-
James Comey, former Director of the FBI under Barack Obama, faced a criminal referral for leaking at least one personal document containing classified information in order to (successfully) get a Special Prosecutor appointed to investigate President Trump. He was not charged, arrested, or punished.
-
Hunter Biden, son of current US leader Joe Biden, is alleged to have conducted questionable business deals with China and the Ukraine, allegedly used a White House credit card to pay for a female escort, lied in order to obtain a firearms permit, and possessed an illegal amount of crack cocaine. To date he has not been charged, arrested, or punished.
I suspect former President Trump, ever the consummate strategist, is playing his usual game of 3D Chess while his adversaries are playing checkers, and he’s a few moves ahead of them. It will be interesting to see if, when it comes to the “Justice”, “Fairness”, and “Equality” Liberals routinely claim to promote and defend Trump is treated with the same kid gloves as Democrats.
