Here’s what Joe Biden said to voters back in 2007:
“We have to tell the truth. There’s a lot at stake at how we end this war. It makes a big difference, how we end this war. It makes a big difference to tell the American people the truth about what our options are in ending this war. If tomorrow the order goes out, I am president, I issue an order, and the war today, begin the withdrawal of all American troops, it would take a year to get them out. Do you hear me now? That is the truth. It will take a year to get them physically out. If you leave all the equipment behind, you might be able to do it in seven months. You need those billions of dollars — you leave those billions of dollars behind, it will matter to your children and grandchildren. All of us running for office, we know the Democrats are against the war. There’s a risk to prove that I can get out faster than the other guy. It is pretty misleading.”
- Senator and Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, Town Hall meeting with Madison County Democrats at the Madison County Historical Society in Winterset, Iowa, August 12, 2007.
As President, Joe Biden ordered the complete withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan on April 11, 2021 to be completed by September 11, 2021 – five months, or 154 days – to withdraw 2,500 troops, leave billions of dollars of military weapons and equipment behind, and abandon perhaps 450 or more Americans in a country hostile to them.
At least Biden was right about one thing: He proved he could “…get out faster than the other guy.”
