Career Experience: Information Professional

Introduction:

Magnifying GlassFor over six years of my career I worked as a "Technical Specialist" for a small Information Aggregator &Technology-Transfer firm. As a database researcher at this firm, I researched over 150 information databases, plus the Internet and subject matter experts, to execute over 3,000 research requests per year for the firm's clients based on their specific information needs - an average of one request every 30 minutes. Many of these requests involved highly technical topics, requiring researching through a wide variety of high-value engineering, scientific, and patent databases.

Clients Served:

Have a Cup! At the peak of my work for this firm although I performed work for any of the firms clients as needed, I was personally responsible for ensuring the contract renewal of over seventy (70) companies, each with a number of their employees using the service that needed to be happy at all times.

Customer Testimonials:

Thumbs Up, Baby! When you provide accurate & timely results to customers that are thorough but concise, you're bound to get unsolicited compliments. What follows are just a few of the many I received during my career as an Information Researcher:

[Customer] called in to praise [The MUSEman's] work. He called us this morning and received perfect [results] this afternoon. He mentioned that this quality of work should never be overlooked.”
 - From a Client Service Manager, RE: Johnstech International Corporation

"Demonstration went exceptionally well! These guys think [The MUSEman] IS God! Call back [in five days], should get the Purchase Agreement."
 - Salesperson's Prospect Visit Report, RE: Reel Service

"Thank you so much for the presentation last week on [your services]. We definately [sic] need to proceed to sign on with you...Thanks again!"
 - Employee, R. G. Barry Corporation

"I have recieved your email with 25 citations on modelling of hydraulic robots. Thank you very much. I have found that most of these citations were right on target. These will be very useful for my research work."
 - Lead Diagnostics Engineer, Mechanical Technology Inc.

"Thank you for the demonstration [researching high-emissivity surface coatings], it was quite impressive."
 - Employee, Koch Enterprises, Inc.

"I truly believe we were going to flop with [the prospective Client's] marketing questions, especially when [the Marketing Manager] mentioned she wanted something from South America... then, lo and behold: [the MUSEman] just whips up all this amazing stuff complete with statistical info and something else on Brasil. Unbelievable! She was so impressed she 'yaked' at me all the way out to my car."
 - Salesperson's Prospect Visit Report, RE: Atlantic Scientific Corporation

"This is to let you know my requested citations [on Government Requests for Proposals involving propulsors] were right on target and, as usual, promptly received. Thanks again for the great service you provide!!"."
 - Employee, General Dynamics Electric Boat

“I would...also like to thank [the MUSEman], the technical specialist who furnished the problem-solving report. It appears that the search results agreed quite well with my search inquiry [regarding inkjet printing directly on metal surfaces].”
 - Legal Counsel for an East Coast law firm.

“Those Center for Disease Control websites are fabulous! Thanks so much for your work [locating statistics on falls among the elderly in the USA]. I appreciate it!”
 - Employee, Electric Mobility.

“Thank you! Excellent search [on the thermal properties of human tissues].
 - Researcher, OraTec

“Hey!!! Excellent job on your last research for me. I did not give you a lot of [background] information, but you still came through. Thanks a bunch.”
 - Employee, GEC-Marconi Hazeltine

"Excellent source of information...Extremely knowledgeable technical support with good communication skills and interpretating my [information] topic needs... [the MUSEman] is particularly helpful..."
 - Sr. Mechanical Engineer, ION Systems Inc., from a Customer Feedback Form

“Your response in less than 2 hours with 58 abstracts was exceptional.”
 - Employee, GEC-Marconi Hazeltine

"[Employee] said that the only time [he] has received excellent search results were the times he worked with [the MUSEman]... [When] someone else handled his [research requests, Employee] said he started to get 'the haystack, not the needle'...[He] feels like renewal [of his contract with us] is not likely..."
 - From Client Service Manager's Client Notes RE: Reed Manufacturing Company

"Thank you very much for your help to find a manufacturing company of [metal alloy] Stellite No. 1... Our people did not find this material for two months. Now, I found it very quickly because of your help. You saved our time and money. Thank you very much again."
 - Employee, Honeywell Corporation

"[The MUSEman], Thank You. Both searches, this one and the one for "REDACTED", have provided the information we needed. You have saved us a lot of time and work."
 - Employee, Par Government Systems Corp.

"[Regarding literature research on efficient slicing algorithms for the manufacture of 3-dimensional volumes] Beautiful! Exactly what I needed."
- Manuacturing Engineer, at bmd.cpii.com

"[Regarding literature research on models for predicting the critical temperature for scoring of gears] [MUSEman], thank you in advance for your prompt and good work."
- PhD. Research Scientist, Hamilton Sundstrand

"Thanks for the quick response [regarding my request for information on moisture absorption & deabsorption in composite airfoils]. Several of these look like good possibilities."
- Materials Engineer, General Electric Aero Engines

"I'm writing this memo to let you know that [the MUSEman] is one of the most professional and thorough Technical Team members at NERAC. I have been doing demonstrations with [The MUSEman] for over a year -- His searches during the demos are consistently of the highest quality. Ken not only does fantastic searches which most often turn into sales, he also does ssomething very unique: He listens to the prospect very carefully to 'zone in' on the features of our service which the client is most ikely to find useful. Then, when applicable, he offers keen insight and specific ideas about how the prospect can use each NERAC feature to create more revenue for their specific marketing and product development needs.

"The prospects are truly impressed with the depth of his knowledge and his insight on how they can best use the service. He's by far the fastest typist (which really helps move the demo along) and can carry on an intelligent conversation the entire time he's setting up a complicated [research] strategy. In short, he's an astoundingly talented Technical Team person. I just wanted to make sure you and he know that I appreciate his consistently oustanding efforts during all the demonstrations he does for me."
 - Internal Fax, From Regional Saleperson to Vice President of the Technical Staff.

"Kudos to [the MUSEman]... The sale [to Polaris Industries] was a direct result of [the MUSEman's] research skill, the quality of his reference interview and his interdisciplinary discussion on waterjet propulsion technology. Working as a team, he focused on the technical aspects, allowing me to sell them on the concepts, thus improving the timing of the [demonstration]. Most importantly, he became their imagination: He suggested and discussed technical areas that could only come from [one] knowledgeable about the disciplines they were inquiring about. It gave us incredible credibility and allowed us to demonstrate our superiority over other information resources. The sale came in earlier than they indicated (two days vs. two weeks). Finally, the ancillary benefit was we have planted roots at Polaris, who has other divisions using [our main competitor]."
