Since the Imperial State of Iran was overthrown in 1979 and replaced by a theocratic regime ruled by Islam Iran has been improving and expanding their ability to launch ballistic missiles and develop nuclear warheads to arm them with, while simultaneously assuring Western countries and the United Nations they aren’t as they prevent outside inspectors from verifying their claims.
And it seems as Iran becomes more desperate in stopping President Trump from destroying their ability to wage war and export terrorism they might be lying about their missile capabilities:

2017 “There is the capability to increase [Iran's missile] range [beyond 2000km], but it is sufficient for now as the Americans are present within a 2,000km radius around the country, and would get a response in the case of any invasion.” - Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, 31 Oct 2017 |
2026 “…[Iran] fired an intercontinental ballistic missile on Diego Garcia. That’s 4,000 kilometers. …they have now the capacity to reach deep into Europe. They already have fired on European countries – Cyprus. They are putting everyone in their sights.” - Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, 22 March 2026 |

Here’s Iran launching one of their Khorramshahr-4 missiles, in a photo released by their Defense Ministry on 25 May, 2023.
The missile’s maximum range is unknown, but could reach up to 4000km. 4,000 kilometers might seem like a long distance, and it is. But when you’re a potential target it might as well be right next door. And, a missile with a 4,000 km range gives Iran a lot of potential targets. |
At that range a missile could reach almost all of Europe, all of Scandinavia, and the Southern region of England, including London.![]() (click for a much larger image) |

When it comes to Iran’s ever-increasing missile and nuclear weapons capability how much credit should be given to
- Democrat Barack Obama, who signed a “historic deal” to “verifiably prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon” (pdf), a deal now considered a spectacular failure, and gave them $1.7 BILLION in cash to release American hostages?
- …or his protege Joe Biden, who removed President Trump’s UN sanctions on Iran, failed to enforce Trump’s Executive Order punishing countries purchasing Iranian oil, and then allowed Iran to access $10 BILLION in funding?
Appeasement and accommodation didn’t work when Europe negotiated with a Certain German Leader, and it hasn’t worked with Iran’s religious leaders. Which is why, after 47 years, America’s 47th President has decided to do something about it. Rather than doing what Ken Burns illustrated in one of his classic cartoons:
