In his excellent, and some would say prescient, 1948 book “Nineteen Eighty-Four” author George Orwell – himself a Socialist – describes a Socialist State called Oceanania where the population is raised, taught, and protected by a seemingly benevolent but ultimately repressive “Big Brother“. It’s a book which should be required reading by everyone as a cautionary tale of the dangers of societal control taken to the extreme.

Within this future dystopia, one small part of making sure the masses remain law-abiding is a gradual replacement and whittling down of the English language by the “Ministry of Truth” until the ability to even contemplate any action considered criminal, let alone communicate it, becomes impossible. This new language was called “Newspeak”.

Has Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, embraced George Orwell’s Socialist dystopia?

Consider his words, recorded by a Twitter employee during what appears to be an internal meeting:

“You should always feel free to express yourself in whatever format manifestation feels right. We do intend to do the full retro as I said in my note, it is going to take some time. And then the other thing, just to close out a little bit. We know, we are focused on one account right now [by banning President Trump's Twitter Account]. But this is going to be much bigger than just one account, and it’s going to go on for much longer than just this day, this week. And the next few weeks and go on beyond the inauguration. We have to expect that we have to be ready for that. So, the focus is certainly on [President Trump's Twitter] account and how it ties to real world violence. But also, we need to think much longer term around how these dynamics play out over time. I don’t believe this is going away anytime soon. And the moves that we’re making today around QAnon for instance, one such example of a much broader approach that we should be looking at and going deeper on. So, the [Twitter] team has a lot of work and a lot of focus on this particular issue. But we also need to give them the space and support to focus on the much bigger picture, because it is not going away. They’re — you know, the U.S. is extremely divided. Our platform is showing that every single day and our role is to protect the integrity of that conversation, and do what we can to make sure that no one is being harmed based off that. And that is the focus. And that is the color we want to provide.

For those not familiar with Orwell’s fictional language of Newspeak, this posting might have been written more simply as follows:

Which roughly translates into Standard English (“oldspeak“) as:

Jack Dorsey Removes People Expressing Obsolete Thoughts

Today, Jack Dorsey of the Ministry of Truth ordered his employees to remove from Twitter as soon as possible all people who have expressed obsolete thoughts not in keeping with Twitter’s interpretation of Socialism because Jack doesn’t like them, starting immediately with Donald Trump.

For those of you on Twitter, how long will it be before Jack comes for you?
