Tonight at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time is the first of three Presidential Debates between Republican Candidate President Donald Trump and the Democrat Candidate the former Vice President Joe Biden. A career businessman who as President has spent the last 47 months “Making America Great Again” versus a career politician who has spent the last 47 years in the United States Senate accomplishing promises to accomplish promises he’s made.
The debate moderator is reporter and interview host Chris Wallace of Fox News, son of legendary CBS news reporter Mike Wallace and a registered Democrat who started his career at ABC News in 1989 before moving to Fox News in 2003.
Tonight’s debate topics will include the COVID-19 Crisis and the Economy.
As Chris Wallace is known to be one of the most well-prepared reporters in the business and likes to ask the “tough questions” of his guests, here’s a [what I truly hope is a fictional] exchange at tonight’s Presidential Debate:
Chris Wallace: “Vice President Biden, how would you have prevented the senseless slaughter of over 200,000 innocent victims – mostly helpless elderly – caused by Mr. Trump’s almost total lack of response to the COVID-19 Pandemic?”
President Trump [interrupting]: “Chris, my response has been and is excellent, I’ve save many millions of lives, many millions.”
Wallace: “Mr. Trump, please don’t interrupt, you’ll have your turn to respond. [brings hand to his left earpiece, listens for a few seconds]. I’ve just been told by our Pulitzer Prize winning fact checkers that on [fill in the date] you did absolutely nothing to prevent or reduce the number of senseless deaths from a virus you publicly downplayed.”
President Trump: “Chris, when you look at my early calls for stopping travel into the USA…
Wallace [interrupting]: “…[checking earpiece] which many stated was uncalled for and would cause unnecessary panic while attacking Asians in this country. But, if you could just answer the question.”
President Trump: “Early on I established a task force, delegated specific tasks and goals, and quickly closed…”
Wallace [interrupting]: “…so, you DIDN’T do ANYTHING about the COVID-19 crisis on [fill in the date]: Doesn’t that strongly suggest a lack of leadership in a tough situation? Getting back to my original question, Vice President Biden, what would you have done?”
Joe Biden [having already been provided with the debate questions prior to the debate and with time to check his own earpiece during the last exchange between President Trump and Chris Wallace]: “Well Chris, everyone knows the COVID-19 crisis is one of the most devastating events the United States has ever endured, a virus where over 200,000 people – young children, single mothers, black lives affected by our discriminatory law enforcement, immigrants trying to make a better life for themselves, the poor, and those affected by climate change – have innocently died. As President I would have already enacted Executive Orders to shut down the economy, enforce mandatory quarantine, test every single person in this country, eliminate Trump’s tax cuts, guarantee a Universal Basic Income of $25 per hour to each person, defund the police, provide trillions to fight climate change, and require everyone receive the COVID-19 vaccine, as only these measures would have controlled this situation. Mr. Trump’s mishandling of this crisis by encouraging people to drink bleach and attacking mostly peaceful protesters while innocent people die is a travesty and an insult to everyone in this country, and as President I promise to respect, support, and protect all the huddled masses yearning to…[suddenly appears startled, as if a buzzer hidden under his clothes has gone off]…those suffering from income inequality and social injustice.”
Wallace: “Thank you for the excellent response, Vice President Biden. Now let’s shift the topic to Trump’s destruction of the economy during 2020.”
Sigh.
Update:“[Chris Wallace] tried to cut off Trump 76 times compared to just 15 times for Biden.” Ten minutes into the debate President Trump looked at Wallace and stated “I guess I’m debating you, not [Joe Biden], but that’s OK, I’m not surprised.”
Double sigh.
Thanks for Reading!
