Fact of the Day: Biden’s Deadly Fentanyl FAIL

Just days before making his first trip to the US-Mexican Border as (p)Resident of the United States, Joe Biden took an opportunity to once again brag about his administration’s accomplishments:

“For example, since August of last year, Customs and Border Patrol have seized more than 20,000 pounds of deadly fentanyl. That’s enough to kill — kill as many as 1,000 people in this country. Twenty thousand pounds of fentanyl. It’s a killer. It’s a flat killer.”
- Joe Biden, speaking from the White House, January 5, 2023

Only 1,000 people?
A statement like that is just begging to be “Fact Checked

  • 20,000 pounds is equal to 9,071,847,400 milligrams of fentanyl

  • 2 milligrams of fentanyl is considered a fatal dose according to the DEA

  • 9,071,847,400 milligrams can potentially kill as many as 4,035,923,700 people

  • The World’s population is about 8,009,592,400 people

20,000 pounds of fentanyl is enough to potentially kill
nearly everyone in the world between 14 and 40 years old.

Quote of the Day: Critical Thinking, 2500 Years Ago

“Now look you, Kalamas.

Be ye not misled by report or tradition or hearsay.

Be not misled by proficiency in the collections [pitakas],
nor by mere logic or inference,
      nor after considering reasons,
nor after reflection on and approval of some theory,
      nor because it fits becoming,
nor out of respect for a recluse (who holds it).

But if at any time ye know of yourselves:

These things are profitable,
      they are blameless,
they are praised by the intelligent:
these things, when performed and undertaken, conduce to profit and happiness,

— then, Kalamas, do ye, having under taken them, abide therein.”
Source: Buddha, as translated in “Book of the Gradual Sayings Vol I (Anguttara Nikaya) (or More-Numbered Suttas)“, Pali Text Society, Oxford University Press, 1932. Page 171.

Notes:

  • “Pitakas” are “baskets”, or collections, of the Buddha’s works.
  • Kalamas were people from the town of Kesaputta, where Buddha visited during his journey among the Kosalans.
  • “Profitable” implies some positive benefit, not necessarily a financial one.

Merry Christmas to You and Yours!

Decorated Christmas Tree, 1983

…and, don’t forget some Holiday Eggnog!*

(FYI: Here’s my brother’s “Holiday Eggnog“ recipe, which pairs well with with cholesterol-reducing cognac (medicinal, of course!) and just a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.)

Oh, and remember: The Christmas season is TWELVE DAYS LONG, starting today (it’s not from Black Friday to Xmas Day, despite what retail marketing says!)

*Disclaimer: Unless you’re allergic to eggs, then don’t do this. ;-)

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – Rand Paul Style!

Back on Christmas Eve 2021, after nearly a year of Joe Biden (p)Residency, I posted “Twas the Night Before Christmas–Brandon style!”, where I called out Joe Biden and his “accomplishments” as America’s leader.

But, leave it to Rand Paul to one-up me in spectacular fashion by calling out the entire U.S. Congress for their last minute budget cash giveaway despite having an entire year to come up with a Federal Budget – one of the very few tasks they are required to do by the US Constitution*

Take a look:
