The Atlantic Wire reports that North Carolina State Representative Becky Carney, a Democrat, “accidentally” voted to override Democrat Governor Bev Perdue’s veto of a bill allowing the extraction of natural gas using hydraulic fracturing (or, “fracking“). Although Republicans represent the majority in North Carolina’s legislature, Rep. Carney’s vote apparently represented the overriding vote.
She claimed fatigue caused her to press the green button instead of the red button – and, I’ve got no reason to doubt her.
No worries Rep. Carney: As a thank you for acting to reduce our dependence on foreign energy I’ve got your back on this one. If voters don’t accept “fatigue” as a reasonable explanation, try using one of these:
- “Green” is good for the environment, isn’t it?
- “Red” = Republican: They should have used Green and BLUE buttons.
- Weren’t we voting to make the word “frack” legal?
- My shot of “5-Hour Energy” wore off just before the vote.
- I was subconsciously unhappy with Gov. Purdue’s expansion of gun laws in North Carolina.
- I didn’t understand the bill before I voted.
- It was my Red-Green color blindness!
- I can’t vote the “Right” way: I’m a Democrat!
- It was the “vast Right-wing conspiracy“.
(BTW: Some North Carolinians will recognize she’s used one of the above reasons before. Read the original article to find out which one.)
