The famous poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote
“Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary.”
Well, for me Henry got that right about four weeks ago, when my “rainy day” became a “rainy week” as everything – home, car, work, Red Sox, family business, heck, even visiting my local bar – went wrong. On the bright side, I figure I’ve gotten most of the bad luck out of the way, so I’m hoping it only gets better from here.
What better reason to randomly ramble?
- My banks, electric utility, and credit card companies all want me to go “paperless” and use their services online. I wonder if they know about Facebook’s database of 553,000,000 users being stolen and offered for free if you know where to find it?
- Seems Coca-Cola, Major League Baseball, and Delta Airlines are upset Georgia added some common sense to their voting regulations. That’s fine by me: Sitting in a cramped airplane to then go sit and watch a baseball game while drinking sugar-laden, heavily-caffeinated soda has got to be bad for your health.
- Speaking of Coca-Cola, did you know it was invented in 1885 by an Army veteran of the Confederate States of America? That’s right: CSA Lieutenant Colonel John Stith Pemberton, whose original “Brain Tonic” included actual cocaine, to help him shake off his addiction to morphine.
- Sorry Red Sox fans (including me!), but the Sox have never made it to the Post Season when starting a season 0-3 or worse. As I’m a huge Red Sox fan I’m already sorry they lost their 3-game Opening Day series against the Baltimore Orioles.
- I figure if Bill Gates (worth $128 Billion), Jeff Bezos (worth $184 Billion), Sergey Brin (worth $95 Billion) and Alex Rodriguez (worth a paltry $350 Million) couldn’t keep their wife / fiancee happy then I don’t stand a chance. Don’t know if I’m now depressed or relieved.
