Attention Red Sox Fans

The 2014 Red Sox Season is fast approaching (and with it my favorite part of  “Climate Change” – Summer :-) , so I’ll be redoubling my efforts to review my couple thousand photos from 2013 and post a new gallery for your entertainment – that is, in between work, making sure I’m signed up for a qualified health insurance plan, filing taxes, working on my tag sale site, and a few dozen other things.

You can Count on those R@ycyst Republicans!

I’d read about this in my local newspaper (how quaint, someone still reads newspapers… but, I digress), and thought it was not only too good to check but eminently chart-worthy (as always, click to embiggen):

(My bar chart is missing...sorry!)
(When it really counts, count on the GOP)

That’s kinda hard to believe, so I checked it anyway, and by-golly-gumbo it actually is true. Of course, I’ve only charted the really important stuff – all the rest is just “detail“.

Still, I was impressed by one detail of the chart: Percentage-wise, more Republicans than Democrats supported and expanded the liberty, freedom, and representation of the individual in our Constitutional Republic – but not one Republican supported the mandatory subservience of the group to the individual (“…12 million Americans who are uninsured and unhappy with their health care — less than 5 percent of the citizenry.” – source)

And, speaking of percentages, now that the citizenry has had the time and information to reflect upon mandatory health insurance (as opposed to health care), it seems Republicans may have a growing majority of those sharing their view.

Health care for all? Health insurance? Health subsidies for the truly poor and indigent? Self-insurance? I’m for all of those things. But mandatory health insurance with no guarantees regarding the availability, depth, quality, or effectiveness of actual health care? This is not how to get it done.

Phil Favors Felix For Fenway Faithful

You know baseball season is on its’ way when the predictions start to emerge, and my colleague and all-around-cool-guy Phil* insisted I write his down. With his being the first Red Sox prediction of 2014 I’ve heard I’m only too happy to oblige:

“Felix Doubront is going to have the most wins for the Red Sox [in 2014].”

Personally, I think John Lester and Clay Buchholz each might get more wins than Felix, but Phil’s one smart guy, so I’m hoping his Red Sox prediction skills are better than mine :-)

Were Republicans “Right” on Russia?

With the recent destabilization of the Ukraine and Crimea caused by the people’s forcible ousting of a ruler who favored self-enrichment over selfless rule it caused me to wonder…

… Perhaps Barack Hussein Obama should stop by Sarah Palin’s house to get a better view of Russia :-)

“The reaction of the Obama campaign to [Russia's invasion of Georgia in 2008], so at odds with our democratic allies and yet so bizarrely in sync with Moscow, doesn’t merely raise questions about Senator Obama’s judgment–it answers them.” – Senator John McCain, August 2008

“After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next.” - Gov. Sarah Palin, October 2008

“I have clear eyes on this. I’m not going to wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to Russia, or Mr. Putin. And I’m certainly not going to say to him, “I’ll give you more flexibility after the election.- Gov. Mitt Romney, October 2012

Call me “old fashioned“, or a “bitter clinger“, but I sort of miss that sense of Patriotism, Nationalism and American self-preservation infused with just enough hegemony and jingoism we’ve seen from past president such as Eisenhower, Reagan, and the Bushes – you know, the kind that’s being practiced today by Communist China and “Democratic” Russia.

Joke of the Day

Awhile ago a new supermarket opened in an affluent neighborhood near my house.

It has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and enjoy the smell of fresh rain.

When you pass the dairy cases, you hear cows mooing and experience the scent of freshly-mowed hay.

The aroma of charcoal grilled steaks with onions permeates the meat department.

As you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle, and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying.

The bread department features the tantalizing smell of fresh baked bread and cookies.

Of course, I don’t buy my toilet paper there ;-)

Is “Global Warming” Leaving You Cold?

Don’t feel bad, you’re not alone.

As of February 7th, 2014, 2/3rds of the United States was covered in snow.
(Sorry, image must be covered with snow!)
(click image to read the full story)

Gosh, where are we getting all this snow? From melting Himalayan snow? The decreasing Arctic ice cap? Or maybe the loss of Antarctic sea ice?

Regardless, it gotta be from “Global Warming“….right?

BTW: It’s beginning to snow as I write this… bringing back childhood memories of global warming in New England during my youth:

("Global Warming", New England, circa 1961)
:-)

A tip-of-the-Red-Sox cap to Anthony Watts, and his excellent website What’s Up With That.
