Quotes of the Day, the Hemming Way.

Autumn has come and gone where I live, and soon my least favorite part of Summer will arrive – “Winter”.

The Earth, locked in orbit through infinite space around the Sun (the number one source of “Global Warming” and “Climate Change”…but, I digress) and inclined on it’s axis, reliably provides us with the cycle of Seasons representing Birth, Growth, Life, and Death.

It’s a life cycle that’s everywhere you look: The Bible, Societies, Countries, Relationships, Marriages, Corporations, Money, Machinery…you name it. And, it’s not only unavoidable but, unfortunately, finite.

So, in this autumnal period where not only the Earth but nearly everyone I’ve come in contact with the past week or so is experiencing a “death” of sorts – physical, emotional, financial, or otherwise – I offer these these two quotes from the Nobel Prize winning author, journalist, and sportsman Earnest Hemingway:

The Pessimistic Quote:

“Madame, all stories, if continued far enough, end in death, and he is no true-story teller who would keep that from you.”
- Author Ernest Hemingway, “Death in the Afternoon”

The Optimistic Quote:

“Today is only one day in all the days that will ever be. But what will happen in all the other days that ever come can depend on what you do today.”
- Author Ernest Hemingway, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”

So, to everyone out there, yes, it’s pretty bad right now, but do the things you know are right and it will eventually all work out. And, please don’t use the Hemingway solution.

Good Morning Greta! (A Children’s Story)

Here’s a nice children’s story to brighten your day, with a BIG tip of the ol’ Red Sox Cap to Richard Courtney. It’s all about saving our environment, starring a little Swedish girl with braids and an unshakable desire to live in harmony with Mother Earth.

Enjoy!

Are Dinosaurs Dangerous to Our “Democracy”?

Fox News…Comet TV…Telemundo…The CW…Stadium…Antenna TV…TBD…

You’ve probably watched one or more of these stations today, and maybe for awhile.

All of these brands – and more – are owned by Sinclair. No, not that big green dinosaur which used to grace the front of many Sinclair Oil gas stations starting in the 1960′s (with only one officially existing today), but rather the Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., a broadcast giant with 190 television stations serving a combined 607 channels to 88 markets in the United States.

And at the end of March, 2018 Sinclair’s TV stations spoke as one voice, to stop “fake news” from being broadcast.

Thanks to the website Deadspin, here’s their composite video showing Sinclair’s “one voice”:

COVID-19: A Dearth of Death.

“The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic.”
Josef Stalin, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

Recently, I took a look at official COVID-19 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and observed that based on their reported data COVID-19 would be “away by Inauguration Day“.

Last night, while waiting in line for my healthy salad Taco Bell with about 5 other socially-distant customers a conversation broke out about SARS-CoV-2. One young person mentioned it was difficult to cope with this “terrible pandemic” as they knew 3 people who had died from it. After expressing heartfelt sympathy & condolences for her loss, I reassured her that while each death is indeed a personal tragedy, in the grand scheme of things the individual risk is extremely small, especially for young people.

In a sense, my reply paraphrased Soviet Premier and ruthless Socialist Dictator Joseph Stalin’s popular quote I wrote above – without intent, of course. But as long as I paraphrased the “Brilliant Genius of Humanity” I may as well provide a chart showing the “Grand Scheme of Things“, using official data provided by the CDC:

Constitutionally, Joe Biden isn’t President.

During the last few days a lot of my Liberal acquaintances have approached me, asking how I feel about President Trump “losing” the 2020 Election and the prospects of a (Jokin-and-a-Gropin-and-a-Sniffin-and-a-Grifting) Joe Biden [P]residency.

I have to admit they’re pretty bold, as they already know how I stand politically. And, apparently, they’re also not aware of America’s Constitutional Process for selecting the President of the United States.

So, putting the many incorrect prediction polls, allegations of the Democrats’ “voter fraud”, and breathless proclamations by the (nonlegal and unofficial) media of a “President Biden” aside for a moment, here’s a handy overview of the Presidential Election Process: See if you (and, my Liberal acquaintances) can discover when a presidential candidate actually officially “Wins” the Election.

To All Veterans: Thank you!

It’s Veteran’s Day, 2020, and I just want to say a heartfelt “Thank you!” to all who have served in America’s Military, but most especially to:

  • Another Uncle, who served in the Army in the Signal Corps, and trained to fight in high-altitude, cold-weather conditions in Northern Italy before being rushed over to the Pacific theater, where he served on Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s communications staff during the New Guinea and Philippines Campaigns. (“[Gen. MacArthur] was a mean SOB bast@rd, but he was precisely the mean SOB bast@rd America needed to defeat the Japanese!”)
  • A third Uncle, who served in the Army Air Corps as a photo reconnaissance specialist and saw action in the New Guinea and Philippines Campaigns. (“[The Japanese] were shooting at us with bullets, and the only thing we could shoot back at them were photographs.”)
  • My Dad, who served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a Flight Officer in Consolidated Aircraft’s B-24 Bombers. He was scheduled to participate in Operation Olympic when atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki compelled the Imperial Nation of Japan to Surrender.

Again, thanks to all who served, and…
