Is this Circular Logic about Illegal Aliens Logical?

Caution: Thinking Skills Required Beyond This PointWhy would “a coalition” of 20 Democrat-run States sue the Federal Government to prevent their Medicaid records from being used by the Feds to identify illegal aliens if by law illegal aliens can’t receive Medicaid?

“Federal law restricts eligibility primarily to U.S. citizens and certain ‘qualified non-citizens’ who are lawfully present in the country.”

Democrats argue in their lawsuit that President Trump “violated federal privacy laws when it turned over Medicaid data on millions of enrollees to deportation officials [during June 2025].”

The Democrats’ need for a lawsuit is the question David Strom over at HotAir asked in his excellent post… and, unfortunately, was unable to answer.

And, it seems, Elizabeth Stauffer’s article over at Legal Insurrection also appeared to have a problem answering.

It’s no secret that data fusion – the research, collection, curation, and analysis of data across multiple databases – is done every day on millions and millions of people by various industries: Social Media, Marketers, Advertisers, Pollsters, a variety of Companies (such as credit card firms & insurance), Landlords, and more. As well as illegally by enterprising Hackers.

For example, automobile insurance companies could use information such as your age, gender, profession, martial status, location, medical history, credit score, bill payments, weather conditions, criminal record, internet surfing history, social media activities, and other socioeconomic factors not directly related – or perhaps even unrelated – to the car you’re trying to insure, your ability to drive, and your driving history. And they do this by checking every database they legally have access to see if your name is on it.

So why can’t the Federal Government practice data fusion, especially if they’re trying to uncover people engaged in illegal activities?

Rhetorically speaking, perhaps someone out there can shed some light on this.
