FYI: I originally wrote this posting on October 8th, 2020 but circumstances prevented me from posting it until now.
The day after the December 7th, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the President of the United States, Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt, gave a speech to a Joint Session of Congress. In his speech he mentioned how the attack was a surprise, how Japan acted in bad faith, that other targets attacked, how America and her people would rise up and defeat this new enemy no matter what it took, and for Congress to declare war on Japan.
What President Roosevelt didn’t say was the United States Navy was essentially destroyed, the USA had no effective air force, our army was the 16th largest in the world behind even Romania, an immediate nationwide military draft would be required, rationing would have to be enacted, peacetime goods would disappear, and hundreds of thousands of US casualties would result, causing pain, anguish, and sacrifice by all Americans in their fight against two major military powers…all with no guarantee America and her allies would ultimately win.
